Historical notes

Both manuscripts discuss the Dunhill Unique as an influential early pocket lighter. Dunhill’s own history associates its lift-arm horizontal-wheel mechanism with engineers Wise and Greenwood in 1919. The source manuscripts disagree about the date the Unique was first introduced, so this entry does not assign a precise launch year.

Identification guidance

This page covers original petrol versions only. Later versions of the Unique name may use gas; inspect fuel reservoir, markings and mechanism before classifying an example.

Sources and research limits

The book material is a research starting point, not automatic proof of manufacture or ownership of any particular lighter. Listed historic dates apply only as qualified above.
